Overview
Smart Transactions Group was created in 2011, bringing together two UK start-ups: next generation digital payments network sQuid and Applied Card Technologies (ACT), the number one ITSO transit smart card provider, which the Group subsequently sold to Fujitsu in August 2015.
The Group now focusses on developing its sQuid business, which intends to be the 'go to' digital financial inclusion platform in developing markets,
sQuid's proposition is based on its versatile digital financial inclusion platform that supports cashless payments, money remittance, microfinance and e-learning services for the aid, humanitarian and education sectors. sQuid works closely with governments and large scale donors to expand consumer access to financial and digital services, including attendance monitoring, payments and money transfer.
In the UK, sQuid focuses on cashless payments in primary and secondary schools, education and business campuses. sQuid’s advanced Cashless Payment Platform for Education enables schools to go cashless, with features that include: secure online payments, trips management, parent communications and fund management.
In Kenya, sQuid provides next generation digital education services through its
iMlango
programme to 200,000 children and is a regulated eMoney issuer with the Central Bank. It also operates humanitarian programmes for Save the Children in Kenya and MercyCorps in Nigeria, plus international remittance to Somalia.
Underpinning sQuid’s growth is its end-to-end technology platform, which includes a smart card/Android terminal POS system which provides sufficient flexibility to meet the needs of a wide variety of partners, from education to aid distribution, microfinance and retail merchants.
